How to take a screenshot on your Android phone
This short guide is a reference tool to help refresh your knowledge or practise what you have learned in the How to take a screenshot on your Android phone online video course.
Step by step
A screenshot (or screencapture) is a way to capture what you see on your phone screen. You can screenshot a picture, text message, web page, or app. The following example shows how to screenshot using a Samsung phone and the steps are similar on other Android phones.
- Make sure the screen displays what you want to capture.
- Place a finger on the Volume down button and another on the Power button.
- Hold both buttons at the same time for about a second, then release them.
- The screen will flash and, if sound is on, hear a camera shutter sound.
- A thumbnail will appear briefly at the bottom left of the screen.
- The screenshot will automatically save to the Gallery app.
- To view the screenshot:
- tap the Home button
- tap the Gallery icon to open the Gallery app.
- Look for the screenshot among your other photos and videos and tap on it to open it.
- To send the screenshot, tap the Share icon.
- To delete it, tap the Rubbish bin icon.
- To see all screenshots, tap the Back arrow to return to the Gallery screen, tap Albums then Screenshots.
Never send screenshots of your personal details, such as passwords or credit card details, to another person. If you no longer need a screenshot, delete it to free up space on your device.
