How to exclude results from Google search
This short guide is a reference tool to help refresh your knowledge or practise what you have learned in the How to exclude results from Google search online video course.
Step by step
You can exclude results from a Google search by using a minus sign. This can help you get more precise and useful search results.
- Go to google.com.
- Type a search term, such as Australian capital city best park, into the Search bar and press Enter.
- Most of the results will be about parks in Canberra.
- To exclude some results from your search, type a minus sign (-) after your search term, immediately followed by the word you want to exclude. Make sure you do not add a space between the minus sign and the word. Our example would look like:
Australian capital city best park -Canberra
- Press Enter to see a new page of search results. In our example, the results would include a wide variety of parks from different Australian cities.
