Introduction to the myGov app
This short guide is a reference tool to help refresh your knowledge or practise what you have learned in the Introduction to the myGov app online video course, including how to:
- search for the app in your phone's app store
- download, install and find the app on your phone
- create and sign in with a myGov app PIN.
Getting started with the myGov app
The myGov app is a convenient and secure way to access Australian government services using your mobile phone or tablet. You can:
- sign in securely to linked services like Centrelink, Medicare, My Aged Care, and the ATO
- receive notifications and letters
- change personal details.
To use the myGov app you must have a myGov account set up.
You can download the myGov app for free from the official app store for your device.
When you download an app for your mobile device, it's always safest to use the official app store.
How to download and install the myGov app
This example uses an Android phone, and the steps will be similar on an iPhone.
- From the Home screen, tap the Google Play Store icon to open the Play Store app.
- Tap the magnifying glass icon at the bottom right to begin a search.
- In the Search bar, type myGov app.
- Tap on the matching search result to see information about the app. Check that the developer is Services Australia to ensure it's the correct app.
- Tap the Install button to download the app to your device.
- Once the download is finished, you can tap Open to launch the app.
- To open the app at another time, find the myGov icon on the Apps screen of your device and tap on it.
How to sign in to the myGov app and set up a PIN
- From the myGov Welcome screen, tap Sign in.
- Read the Terms of use and tap I agree.
- Enter your myGov account’s Digital ID, Passkey or username and password to sign in.
- myGov will send a security code to your email address or phone number to verify your identity. Enter it into the box and tap Next.
- Create a six-digit PIN, then enter it again to confirm it. You will now use your PIN each time you sign in to the app.
- Once you’ve signed in, the Home screen appears and the myGov app is ready to use.
- To sign out, tap the profile icon in the top right to open Account settings.
- From the menu that appears, tap the Sign out button at the bottom of the screen to return to the myGov Welcome screen.
