Getting started with the myGov app

The myGov app lets you securely access the online accounts you have with Australian government services using your mobile phone or tablet.

  • a myGov account set up
  • a myGov PIN

How to sign in to the myGov app

This example uses the myGov app on an Android phone, and the steps will be similar on an iPhone.

To access the main menu of the myGov app:

  1. From your phone’s Apps screen, tap the myGov app icon to open the app.
  2. From the Welcome screen that appears, tap Continue.
  3. Enter your myGov PIN to sign in.
  4. From the Home screen that appears, you can see alerts and tap icons to access the main features of the app.
To help keep your myGov account secure only use the official myGov app, never share your password or verification codes and always log out if you are using a shared device.

Using Account settings

The Profile icon at the top right of the Home screen lets you access your Account settings.

Account settings allows you to manage your contact details, PIN, password and other security settings. It provides a sign out button, plus information on how to use the app, how to close your myGov account, and more.

Using the Wallet

The Wallet is where you can store some government cards, including Centrelink concession cards and health care cards from services linked to your myGov account.

Saving a digital copy of important cards on your mobile device can be convenient and helps ensure no-one can access them but you.

To save your Medicare card in the Wallet:

  1. Tap the Wallet icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap the plus button at the top right of the screen or tap the Add a card text.
  3. From the list that appears, tap Medicare card.
  4. Read the terms and conditions, then tap I agree.
  5. A preview of your Medicare card will appear.
  6. Tap the preview image to view the full details on your Medicare card.

Using the Inbox

The Inbox icon is where you receive official messages and updates from government services.

It is a good idea to check your messages regularly and read them carefully.

Using Services

The Services icon lets you access and manage linked services, such as Medicare, the ATO or Centrelink.

  1. Tap the Services icon at the bottom of the screen to see a list of your linked services.
  2. Tap the name of a service to open it securely and check details, payments or tasks related to that service.
  3. To link another service, tap the plus button at the top right and follow the prompts.
