Welcome to the 'Using the myGov app' video course. In this video, you'll learn about the features you can access from the myGov app and how to save a digital copy of your Medicare card in the app. The myGov app lets you use your myGov account sign-in details to securely access the online accounts you have with the Australian Government services.
To follow along, you must have already set up your myGov app on your mobile phone or tablet and have a myGov PIN ready to sign in. To save your Medicare card in the app, your online Medicare and myGov accounts must be linked. This demonstration uses the app on an Android phone, and the steps will be similar on an iPhone. To start, open the myGov app by tapping its icon on the phone's Apps screen. You will see the Welcome screen and your first name. Tap the Continue button. Now use the number pad to enter your myGov PIN. The Home screen will appear, where you can see any alerts you may have received and access your account settings. To do this, tap on the profile icon at the top right of the screen.
In the menu, Profile lets you check and update your contact details and close your myGov account. 'Help' provides useful information on how to use the app. The Sign out button lets you log out of the app securely. For details about your myGov account security, tap 'Sign in settings' from the menu. Here you can view and edit your PIN, password, and other security settings. To return to Account settings, tap the Back arrow at the top left. It's worth exploring other options in this menu, but for now, tap the Back arrow at the top left to return to the home screen.
At the bottom are icons for some key features, and we'll look at these one by one. Wallet is where you can store some government cards, including Centrelink concession and healthcare cards from services linked to your myGov account. Having a digital copy of important cards, like your Medicare card, on your mobile device can be convenient and helps ensure no one can access them but you. Tap on the Wallet icon. From the list that appears, tap on Medicare card. Once you've read the terms and conditions, tap 'I agree'.
A preview of your Medicare card will appear. Tap the image to view all the details on your card. When you're done, tap the Back arrow at the top left of the screen to return to your Wallet. At the bottom of the screen, the Inbox icon is where you can receive official letters and updates you may have received from government services. Tap on it. Messages and alerts sent to your Inbox can include Centrelink letters, Medicare notices, and requests for information. They might tell you that a payment or update has occurred or that you need to take action.
It's a good idea to check your messages regularly and read them carefully. The last icon at the bottom of the screen lets you access and manage your linked Australian Government services. When you link services such as Medicare, the ATO, and Centrelink to your myGov account, you can securely access them using your myGov sign-in details. Tap on the Services icon to see your linked services. Tapping the name of a service opens that service securely, allowing you to check details, payments, or tasks related to that service.
To link another service, you can tap the plus button at the top right, then follow the steps. For now, tap the Back arrow on the left to return to the Services menu. To help keep your myGov account secure, only use the official myGov app and never share your password or verification codes. You should also log out if you're using a shared device. Once you've finished your myGov session, the app will automatically sign you out after a short period. To sign out right away, tap the Back arrow at the bottom right of your phone. From the pop-up box that appears, tap Sign out.
The Welcome screen will appear, ready for you to sign in for your next session. You've learned what the myGov app is, how to sign in, and how to use the key features. If you're unsure about any steps, you can rewind the video and watch again. If you're ready to move on, there are many other courses to explore on Be Connected.
