Welcome to the 'Linking Medicare in the myGov app' video course. In this video, you'll learn how to link your Medicare account in the myGov app. The myGov app lets you use your myGov account sign-in details to securely access the online accounts you have with Australian Government services. When you link your myGov and Medicare accounts, you can submit medical claims, track payments, and update personal details using the myGov app on your mobile phone or tablet.
To follow along, you must have already set up your Medicare online account and myGov app. You must also have your Medicare card details, your myGov PIN ready to sign in, and access to the mobile phone number or email address registered with your Medicare account. This demonstration uses the app on an Android phone, and the steps will be similar on an iPhone.
To start, open the myGov app by tapping its icon on the app screen. You will see the welcome screen and your first name. Tap the Continue button. Now, use the number pad to enter your myGov PIN. The app's home screen will appear. To see your linked services, find the Services icon in the bottom right of the screen and tap it. In this demonstration, we already have some linked services.
To add Medicare, tap the plus button at the top right to see the options. Find Medicare in the list of services and tap on it. You can read information about what you can do when you link Medicare to myGov. When you're ready, tap 'Link Medicare to myGov'. Next, read and scroll through the privacy and your personal information text. Then tap Next. If you don't know your Medicare card number and the individual reference number that appears next to your name on the card, tap No to see how to contact Medicare directly. If you know your Medicare details, tap Yes. A linking code is a one-time code you can get from Services Australia if you are unable to verify your identity online. For this demonstration, we'll tap No, then Next to continue. Some information about what you'll need to link Medicare to your myGov will display.
Once you've read the details and are ready, tap 'Get started'. The following few screens will ask questions about your identity, starting with your Medicare details. Tap in the box under Medicare card number to display the keyboard. Then enter your Medicare number. Now, add your individual reference number, which is the number next to your name on the Medicare card. Enter your first name, last name, and date of birth. Enter your address. And at the bottom of the screen, tap Next. To help you prove your identity, Medicare will ask to send a one-time security code to the mobile phone number or email address you provided when you set up your account. If you don't want to use a code, you can use an identity document instead. For this demonstration, scroll down and tap 'Use a one-time passcode'.
To receive the code, first read the information and tap the tick box at the end of the screen to agree to the terms and conditions. Then tap Next. Depending on how your account is set up, you'll see options to receive the code by SMS or email. For this demonstration, we'll tap SMS. Enter your phone number into the box, then tap Next. On the next screen, tap 'Send code'. The one-time passcode might take up to five minutes to reach you. Once it arrives, enter the code into the box and tap Submit. Medicare will now ask for some more personal details. The questions are based on information you will have shared previously with Medicare. If you don't or can't answer them, you may be locked out of your account for 24 hours or have to prove your identity with Services Australia over the phone or at a service centre. Once you've answered the questions successfully, your myGov and Medicare accounts will be linked.
You can now securely submit medical claims, track payments, view your claims history, and update personal details using the myGov app on your mobile phone. Now, tap the 'Return to myGov' button at the top right of your phone to leave the Medicare website and get back to the myGov app. When the Services screen appears, you're in the myGov app. To end your session, you could tap the Home icon and sign out from account settings, but for this demonstration, we'll tap the phone's Back arrow.
When the pop up appears, tap 'Sign out'. The Welcome screen will appear and display your name, ready for the next time you need to sign in. You've learned how to link your Medicare account to your myGov account. If you are unsure about any steps, you can rewind the video and watch again.
