Keeping up with all the bills and expenses of modern living can feel like a full-time job in itself!

The Savings Finder on Service NSW includes an online calculator that will calculate how much you are spending and suggest ways you can save money. This includes links to rebates, vouchers, and more.

To use the calculator, you’ll need to provide some details about your monthly expenses, including what you spend on housing, food, power, and various other things.

eSafety tip

It’s safe to put information in the online calculators on Service NSW, because this information is not saved or uploaded to the internet.

The calculator is a small program that runs in your web browser, so the information stays on your computer. Also, you won’t need to enter any personal details to use an online calculator.

Finding petrol prices on FuelCheck

Under the Driving and transport category you can find a link to the NSW fuel price monitor, called FuelCheck. This will take you to the fuelcheck.nsw.gov.au site, where you can search your local area for the best petrol prices in real time.

Driving and transport, and Boating, fishing and outdoors

These two categories have lots of information about discounts and concessions related to driving, public transport, travelling, and more. You can:

  • Apply for a concession card or travel
  • Apply for a National Parks Pass
  • Get discounted registration for a caravan.

There are often new rebates or programs added to these services so it’s worth checking back regularly, especially if you are hoping to go travelling.

Losing your wallet

Losing your wallet (or purse) is always inconvenient, so Service NSW offers a helpful guide, to make sure it doesn’t turn into a disaster.

You can find the guide on the Service NSW website, by entering Losing your wallet into the search bar at the top right of the Service NSW home page.

This opens a page with a list of things to do in the unfortunate event you do lose your wallet.

Losing your wallet (continued)

You’ll be reminded to contact your financial institutions, and to report the loss via the NSW Police Force Community Portal.

Then, you can browse through a list of things you might have had in your wallet, such as your ID cards, and find where you need to go to get them replaced. Many documents can be replaced by filling out an application online, and the guide will link you to the relevant application page.

Well done!

This is the end of the Discovering everyday savings activity. You’ve learned how Service NSW can help you save money on your regular expenses, and what to do if you lose your wallet or purse.

Up next, the Saving money with rebates activity will show you how to find government rebates for things like gas or electricity, and how to apply for them.
