Useful things you should know

What's coming up?

In this activity, you’ll learn about a few more services not mentioned in this course already and also some general tips about how to use the Service NSW website.

All about guides

Unlike the pages on the website for individual services, which provide information and let you start an application, Guides help you work out which services you need in the first place.

For example, the Planning for retirement guide has an exhaustive list of what you should consider when planning your retirement.

It includes sections on Getting paperwork organised, Planning ahead documents (such as your Will), Funding your retirement, and lots of useful information on entitlements.

How to find useful guides

To find the Planning for retirement and other guides, look for the Popular guides section on the Service NSW home page. You can also type Guides in the search bar in the top right of the Service NSW home page.

Click the All guides link to see all the guides that are available, and then click on any guide to see all the details.

Online calculators

The Service NSW website has a number of online calculators to help you work out things such as how much tax or stamp duty you need to pay on property, or even how many kilojoules you are eating each day!

The Online calculators are part of the Concessions, rebates and assistance category. However, you can quickly see all the calculators together by entering Calculators in the search box in the top right of the Service NSW home page.

eSafety tip

Service NSW’s online calculators will ask you to put in various details so they can provide accurate data for you. It’s safe to enter these details, because they are not saved or uploaded to the internet.

You won’t need to enter any personal details to use an online calculator.

Popular pages

The availability of services, rebates, guides, and more, is always changing on Service NSW.

A useful way to keep an eye on what’s new is the Popular pages panel. This is at the top of the Service NSW home page and is coloured dark blue.

The Popular pages panel includes quick links to everyday things such as renewing registrations or changing your address. It also includes links to newer or more topical things, such as Dine & Discover vouchers, or Storms and floods support.
