Discovering everyday savings
What's coming up?
In this activity, you’ll find out how Service Victoria and some other government websites, as well as some businesses, can help you save money today.
Start activityChecking fuel prices with RACV
The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) provides a handy free service for you to check fuel prices, whether locally or in preparation for a trip.
Type racv.com.au in the address bar of your web browser and press Enter, to visit the RACV website. When the page loads, click Fuel Prices in the top right.
The fuel prices page includes an interactive map. Enter your postcode to see petrol prices near you.
Along with the highest, lowest, and average prices, RACV provides a very useful don’t pay above price.
eSafety tip
It’s safe to put your postcode information in the RACV website because this information is not saved or uploaded to the internet.
Using VicRoads for all things roads
While you can renew your car registration on the Service Victoria website, for more info and for everything to do with your Victorian driver licence, visit vicroads.vic.gov.au. As well as paying you registration online, and renewing your licence, you can:
- Receive Disruption alerts (for roadworks and big accidents)
- Check specific road rules
- Have your say on new road projects.
You can find these options by choosing from the menu on the left side of the VicRoads home page.
Visiting Seniors Online Victoria
The Victorian government has a special website for seniors called seniorsonline.vic.gov.au, where you can find out about getting a Seniors Card.
This site also has a huge amount of information and offers for seniors, and a Discount Directory which lets you search for discounts and offers from businesses throughout Victoria.
Click the Seniors Card link at the top of the page, and in the menu that appears, choose Discount Directory. You can then search by keyword or look for the Latest Special Offers.
Well done!
This is the end of the Discovering everyday savings activity. You’ve learned how you can access government websites to help you save money on your regular expenses.
Up next, the Claiming rebates and lost superannuation activity will show you how to find government rebates for things such as gas or electricity, and how to apply for them.
