How technology helps overall wellbeing
How technology helps overall wellbeing
What's coming up?
In this activity, you’ll learn about how overall health and wellbeing is about more than just tracking your steps and sleep, and how being connected online can help maintain your overall wellbeing.
Start activityHealth is more than steps and sleep
Your health suite app includes a lot of features and data, but it does focus on movement (steps, standing regularly, elevating heart rate) and tracking your sleep. However, your overall wellbeing involves more than this.
Being online provides health options
When you have access to the internet, whether it’s by home Wi-Fi, or mobile data network, you also have access to a wealth of ways to look after your health and wellbeing.
Ways the internet helps with wellbeing
On your mobile device’s app store, you can download exercise apps, as well as apps for:
- Meditation, which can help you relax
- Mindfulness, which may help with anxiety or distraction
- Brain-training, which includes little games to help keep you sharp and alert
- Plus, many other health-related apps.
eSafety tip
Only download apps from the official store for your device. That includes the App Store for Apple devices and Google Play for Android devices.
Telehealth is an important part of your wellbeing
Many doctor’s surgeries, medical centres, and hospitals offer telehealth services. Telehealth means you can use your device (computer or mobile device) to sign in securely to a website or video call, to get medical advice, refill some medicines, and get those quick follow-ups that doctors often ask for.
Apps with a community focus
Many health-related apps let you create an account that includes a profile you can use to connect with other people doing similar exercises or health activities. You might be able to find groups to join in your local area, or simply get motivation and inspiration from others online.
The Australian Government has information too
You can find a list of health and wellbeing apps and services recommended by the Australian Government at https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/health-and-wellbeing-apps.
This list of apps is especially useful if you are interested in mental health and wellbeing, and includes the government’s HealthDirect app for finding free health information, advice and services.
Well done!
