Welcome to the 'How to call emergency services from your iPhone's lock screen course. In this video, you'll learn how to quickly call for emergency help, even if your phone is locked. This can help when you or someone else is in trouble and there's no time to unlock your phone or open apps. This feature works in most countries around the world and automatically calls the correct emergency number for the country you're in.
It also provides your location to emergency services, even if you haven't activated Location Services on your phone. A mobile phone doesn't need a SIM to make an emergency call. It just needs battery power and to be in range of any mobile network. To start, let's set up your phone's Emergency SOS feature. From the Home screen, tap the Settings app to open it. Scroll down and tap Emergency SOS.
Check that Call with Hold and Release is turned on. This allows you to call emergency services by pressing and holding two buttons on either side of the phone, then releasing them after a countdown. You can also turn on Call with 5 Button Presses. This lets you press the Side button, that's the button on the right-hand side of your iPhone, five times quickly to start a call to emergency services. When you make an Emergency SOS call, the Set Up Emergency Contacts in Health option automatically sends a message with your location to the emergency contacts in the Health app. You can learn about setting this up in the 'How to send an SMS to an emergency contact on an iPhone' course.
Now, let's test how emergency SOS works from the lock screen by pressing the Side button five times. First, press the Side button on the right of the phone once to turn off the screen. Then press it again to wake the phone. Now, press the Side button five times quickly. After a moment, you'll see the emergency SOS slider. After a short countdown, your iPhone will automatically call emergency services. To connect faster, you can swipe the SOS slider to the right to confirm the call right away.
If you activate Emergency SOS by mistake, you can cancel the call during the countdown by tapping the grey Stop button at the bottom of the screen. If the call is being put through, you can tap the red End or Hang Up button to cancel the call.
