Welcome to the 'Using your iPhone's speaker for voice calls' video course. In this video, you'll learn how to turn your phone speaker on during a phone call. This means you don't have to hold the phone to your ear and is useful for hands-free conversations or when you'd like someone nearby to join in.
First, a quick guide to your phone's speakers. The earpiece is a small slot at the very top edge of your phone, and it's what you normally hold to your ear to hear the other person during a call. The main speaker is at the bottom of your phone, next to the charging port. It's a loud speaker that plays sounds when you watch videos, make video calls, or listen to music.
When you're on a call, look at the call screen to see a row of icons. Tap the one that looks like a speaker or is labelled, Speaker. The icon will highlight to show that the speaker is now active, and you'll hear the call through your phone's speaker. Once speaker is on, place your phone on a flat surface in front of you.
The microphone is at the bottom of the phone, near the charging port, so make sure that end is pointing towards you. If you find the caller's voice is too loud or have trouble hearing them, you can adjust the sound levels by using the volume buttons on the side of the phone.
To turn speaker off, tap the speaker icon again and the call will return to the earpiece as normal. You can switch speaker on and off at any point during the call. You don't need to do it before you start talking.
