Welcome to the 'Sharing a file from your Windows computer to an iPhone' video course. In this video, you will learn about sharing a file from a Windows computer to an iPhone using Gmail. The steps in this video also work for sharing a file from your computer to an iPad. In this example, you're going to send an email with concert tickets to your iPhone, so you can show them on the screen at the venue.
You purchased the tickets weeks ago, so you've already searched your Gmail for the email, which now appears right at the top of your Inbox. It includes a ticket for you and a friend attached as a PDF. Click on this email to open it in the viewing pane and then click the Forward button at the bottom left.
A new message pops up with the PDF tickets already attached. Enter your own Gmail address in the To field. Click Cc on the right of the pop up, and enter your friend's email address. This will send the ticket to your friend as well. The subject will be the same as in the original email. For example, 'Ticket purchase confirmation'. At the bottom of the pop up, click the blue Send button to forward the email. The Message sent pop up will display. To view the email on your iPhone, tap on the Gmail app to open it. In this demonstration, it's on the Home screen. The email you just sent should be at the top of the Inbox and marked from 'me'. It will also be marked as a 'Forwarded message'. If the email isn't there yet, just wait a few moments and it should appear.
Tap the message to open it, and on the message view screen, tap the PDF icon at the bottom. The PDF will open on your iPhone screen. It may have a QR code or a barcode you can show at the venue. It's a good idea to save this ticket to your Files app in case there is no mobile reception at the venue. With the PDF still open on your iPhone screen, tap the Share icon at the top right. It looks like a square with an arrow. Look below the Share options for a menu. Choose Save to Files from this menu.
If you can't see it, you may need to scroll the options. The Files app will open. You can choose to save to iCloud or save to your device. Tap on My iPhone, then tap Save in the top right to begin saving the PDF to your device. Let's quickly check that the PDF has saved properly in your Files app. Swipe up from the bottom to go to the Home screen, then find the Files app icon and tap on it. It looks like a folder.
By default, files will open to show Recent files, and your PDF should be in the top left corner of the screen. If you can't see it, tap the Recent icon at the bottom left of the screen. It looks like a clock. Now tap the PDF to open it on your iPhone screen. You can repeat these two steps once you get to the concert venue when you are asked to show your ticket. You've learned how to share a PDF from your Windows computer to your iPhone using email. If you're unsure about any steps, you can rewind the video or click the chapter headings to jump to the start of a chapter.
