Welcome to the 'Sharing a video from your iPhone to a Windows computer' video course. In this video, you'll learn about sharing a video from an iPhone to a Windows computer using the Microsoft Photos app. The steps in this video also work for iPad. The Microsoft Photos app is usually pre-installed on a Windows computer, but if you don't have it, you can get the app from the Microsoft Store.
You'll need to connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable. When you connect your iPhone, you should unlock it. You might see a pop up on the screen that asks, 'Trust this computer? or 'Allow this device to access photos and videos?' Tap Allow, and then enter your iPhone's passcode to confirm that you trust your computer to copy files from your iPhone. You will usually only have to do this once, but you might need to do it again if you update Windows on your computer or update to a new version of iOS on your device. Once your iPhone and computer are connected via USB, open the Photos app on your computer.
To do this, click the Start button at the bottom of the screen and a pop up will appear showing a lot of icons. In the Search bar at the top of the pop up, type Photos. All the icons will disappear except the Photos app icon. Click this icon to open Photos. When the Photos app opens, you can see a grid of photos that are already on your computer. On the left, you can see a list of folders that you can view photos in, but your iPhone doesn't appear here by default. To see your iPhone, click the Import button in the top right of the Photos screen. A menu will drop down showing which devices are connected via USB. Your iPhone should appear here.
When your iPhone appears in the menu, click it to see a grid of photos and videos that are on the device. You can tell which items are videos thanks to a small film icon in the top left of the picture. Click on each video and photo you want to move from your iPhone to your computer. In this demonstration, we are going to select all four videos. Once you've selected your videos, click the 'Add 4 items' button in the top right of the Photos screen. A pop up panel appears.
You can save the videos in your Pictures folder on your computer, or create a new subfolder under Pictures to keep everything organised. It is safe to import these videos and any photos from your iPhone to your computer because you created them on your device. You can still scan the new folder for viruses by opening it in File Explorer and right clicking. From the menu that appears, choose Scan. For this demonstration, we'll create a folder called iPhone to store all our imported iPhone photos and videos. Click on Create folder, and then type in iPhone. Then click Create.
When the iPhone folder is created, click on it to select it. Now click Import. You might need to wait a minute or two for the videos to copy to your computer, especially if they are quite long. To check your videos are on your computer, click the cross in the top right of the Photos panel to close it. Now click on the File Explorer icon in the Task bar at the bottom of the screen. It looks like a folder. When File Explorer opens, find the pictures folder on the left of the panel and click it.
When the Pictures panel opens, double-click on the iPhone folder you created to open it. Then double-click on a video you want to watch. You've learned how to share a video from your iPhone to your Windows computer using the Microsoft Photos app. If you're unsure about any steps, you can rewind the video or click the chapter headings to jump to the start of a chapter.
