Introduction to
Pinterest
This course introduces you to the Pinterest social media platform. You’ll learn what Pinterest is used for and how you can safely create and enjoy using a Pinterest account of your own.
First, we have a short video to watch that demonstrates how you can create a Board within Pinterest and start saving Pins (or photos) to your Pinterest Board.

Welcome to 'Using Pinterest'. Pinterest is a social media platform that lets you view and organise photos online. These photos are called Pins, and they can be organised into collections called Boards. In this video, Jeremy is going to use his computer to create a Board for his favourite Winter recipe pins. While the Pinterest app works in a similar way on mobile devices, the steps in this video will look a little different. Don't worry though, you should still be able to follow along.
To begin, Jeremy types www.pinterest.com into the web browser on his computer. For convenience, he stays logged in to his Pinterest account so he doesn't need to enter his username and password every time he visits the site. Pinterest opens on Jeremy's Home screen, which contains a grid of Pins that Pinterest thinks might be of interest to him. This list is also called a Feed. Pinterest curates this feed based on the interests that Jeremy listed when he created his Pinterest account, and also based on the things he's searched for in Pinterest. Jeremy's been looking for some cooking inspiration, so he'll create a new Board for his recipe Pins. He clicks on his Profile icon in the top right.
Jeremy has already created several other Boards and he can see them here on his Profile page. To create a new Board, he clicks the plus icon, which is in the middle-right of the screen. A small pop up appears, and from the options, he clicks on Board. The Create board pop up appears. He types in a name for his new Board. If Jeremy wanted this board to be private, he could click on the switch next to 'Keep this board secret' but he doesn't mind if other people see his recipe collection, so he decides not to do so this time. Now, he clicks on Create, and that's it.
Jeremy is ready to start adding Pins to his new Board. A pop up with suggestions for his new Winter recipe Board will appear. Jeremy likes the look of the first one, yum, Crispy Parmesan Potatoes. As he moves his mouse over the image, the Save button appears in the top right. He clicks on it to add the Pin to his new Board. Jeremy wants to refine his search criteria, so he clicks the Done button at the bottom right of the pop up to go to his new Winter recipes board. At the top of this page is a Search box, which Jeremy uses to look for some sourdough bread recipe Pins. He checks that it's set to All Pins, so he's searching all of Pinterest, not just his saved Pins or Boards. This one looks yummy. He clicks on the image to increase the size, and also to find out where the image is originally from on the internet. He clicks the downward-pointing arrow under the image to choose which Board to save it to, and then clicks Save. To return to his Search results, he clicks the arrow on the left of the screen. Jeremy keeps searching Pinterest for recipe inspiration, saving favourite Pins to his Winter recipe Board. Now he'll never be left wondering, 'What's for dinner?'.
