Welcome to the "How to use AirDrop on an iPhone" video course. In this video, you'll learn how to share a photo with a friend using AirDrop. AirDrop lets you wirelessly and securely share photos, videos, contacts, locations, and files between Apple devices that are in close proximity to each other. For this demonstration, we'll share a photo from one iPhone to another. To use AirDrop, both devices must have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on.
To check, tap the Settings app on the Home screen to open it. The Wi-Fi option near the top should show the name of the network your phone is connected to, and the Bluetooth option should be on. Both devices must also have permission to send and receive files using AirDrop. To adjust permissions, scroll to find General and tap it.
Then tap AirDrop to see the options. "Receiving Off" means you won't receive AirDrop requests. "Contacts Only" is selected by default and means you can share files only with people in your contacts list. "Everyone for 10 Minutes" means you and anyone with an Apple device using AirDrop can share files for 10 minutes. Choose this when you want to share files with someone who is not in your contacts.
For this demonstration, we'll keep both iPhones set to Contacts Only. Now, let's share a photo with a friend. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return to the Home screen. Tap on the Photos app. Tap a photo to select it. Then tap the Share icon at the bottom left of the screen. The Share menu appears with some options. Tap the AirDrop icon.
After a moment, the name of your friend's iPhone will appear below Other Devices. Tap it, and after a moment, the word Sent will appear in blue. Your friend's iPhone should then receive a message saying that you'd like to share an image and give the option to Accept or Decline. If they accept, the photo will display on their phone and be saved to their Photos app.
