Welcome to the 'How to use Siri on an iPhone' video course. In this video, you'll learn how to switch on the Siri digital assistant and use it to make a phone call. Siri can perform many tasks for you by listening to your voice. You can ask it to send messages, set reminders, get directions, and more. If you find typing or searching through menus difficult, Siri can make it easier to use your phone. You can use it anytime, even when your screen is off.
The steps in the video are similar on an iPad. From the Home screen, tap the Settings app. In the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Apple Intelligence & Siri. It might be called Siri & Search, depending on your iPhone model. If you see Apple Intelligence at the top of the screen, make sure the switch is off. Siri still works when this feature is on, but the steps look different to what's shown in this video. Next, find Talk to Siri and tap it to see the options.
There are a few ways to activate Siri. To start Siri using the Side button on the right of your phone, you can tap the switch next to Press Side Button for Siri. For this demonstration, we'll tap "Hey Siri" instead. This allows Siri to start listening when you say the phrase, "Hey Siri," and means you don't have to be holding your phone to use Siri. From the pop up that appears at the bottom of the screen, tap Enable Siri to confirm.
Now, it's time to set up Siri. Tap Continue, then follow the prompts on the next few screens to teach Siri how to recognise your voice. Hey Siri, how's the weather? Hey Siri, send a message. Hey Siri, set a timer for three minutes. Hey Siri, get directions home. Hey Siri, play some music. When you're finished, tap Done to return to the Talk to Siri screen.
The "Hey Siri" option now has a tick next to it, so Siri is ready to use. To test Siri, you can ask it to do something like search the web or make a phone call. Talk clearly and naturally. 'Hey Siri, call Sigrid.' You can tell Siri is listening when the sphere appears at the bottom of the screen. Once Siri has found the contact you want to phone, it might ask you to confirm it's correct. You can tap the Call button or just say 'call', and Siri will start the call. You can stop Siri by either tapping the hang up button on the screen or just wait for Siri to finish.
Try experimenting with Siri to see what else it can do. 'Hey Siri. What's the current temperature in Delhi?' 'Goodbye Siri.' Siri only listens when prompted, and may share recorded conversations with Apple. The information isn't linked to your identity, but if you're concerned, you can turn Siri off at any time.
