Welcome to the 'Sharing photos from your iPhone to a Windows computer' video course. In this video, you'll learn about sharing a photo from an iPhone to a Windows computer using Gmail. The steps in this video also work for sharing photos from an iPad.
From your iPhone's Home screen, open the Photos app. At the bottom of the screen, check that All is selected. This shows all your photos, with the newest photos at the bottom. If you have a lot of photos, you can scroll up to find older photos. Choose a photo you want to send and tap on it. The photo will fill the screen.
At the bottom left of the photo, find and tap the Share icon. It looks like a square with an arrow. The Share screen appears. Check that the photo has a small blue tick. The tick means the photo is selected for sharing. You can swipe left and right on the photo to see more photos. Tap any of these to make the blue tick appear. This adds them to a stack of photos you can share all at once. When you are ready to send your selected photo, tap on the Gmail icon below. If you can't see it, use your finger to swipe left or right through the share options until you find it.
The screen will change to show your Gmail app, and a new email will appear with the photo already included in the message. You can send this photo to any email address, but to share it to your own computer, you can send it to yourself. Start typing your own Gmail address into the To field. A suggested address will display, and you can tap on it to autofill the To field. You can also add a subject, if you'd like. Tap the blue Send arrow. Gmail and the Share screen will disappear, and your photos will display. You can now swipe up to go to the Home screen on your iPhone.
On your computer, Gmail should be open in your web browser and signed in with your Google Account. The email you just sent to yourself should be at the top of the screen, marked from 'me'. Click on the email to see a preview of the photo. To see the photo full size, right-click on the photo and a menu will pop up. From the menu, choose 'Open image in new tab'. A new tab will open alongside the Gmail tab at the top of the browser window. Click on it to see the image full size. You don't need to run antivirus when viewing a photo in your web browser. This is because the browser protects your computer by not downloading the photo.
Right now, the photo is saved in your Gmail until you delete the message, but you can also save it to your computer. Right-click on the photo to show the menu again. This time, choose 'Save image as'. A File Explorer panel appears. Highlighted in blue at the bottom of the panel is the file name. The photo doesn't yet have a name, so type one to make it easier to find on your computer later. On the left of the panel, you'll see options for where to save the photo on your computer. Click on the Pictures folder, then click Save at the bottom right of the panel.
To check the photo has saved, click the File Explorer icon in the Task bar at the bottom of the screen. It looks like a folder. The File Explorer panel will open again. On the left, click on Pictures to see the photo. You've learned how to share a photo from your iPhone to your Windows computer. If you're unsure about any steps, you can rewind the video or click the chapter headings to jump to the start of a chapter.
