Welcome to the 'Sending a voice message on an Android phone' video course. In this video, you'll learn how to record and send a voice message using the Google Messages app that comes with your Android phone. This can be quicker and easier than typing a message.
To start, open the Messages app from your Home screen. It's a white icon with a blue speech bubble. If you can't find it, you can swipe up to open the Apps screen and look for it there. When the Messages app opens, you can start a new conversation by tapping the speech bubble icon in the bottom right corner and searching for the contact you'd like to message from your contacts list.
For this demonstration, we'll tap on an existing conversation with a contact. Once the conversation view opens, look at the text box at the bottom of the screen. On the right side, you'll see an icon that looks like an audio wave or a microphone, depending on your Android phone model. Tap this icon.
A message box will appear, and you can tap on it or on the microphone icon below to start recording. Now, speak your message clearly. "I would love to catch up for some coffee and cake. Let's meet at the Blue Gum Cafe at 11." When you've finished, tap the red Stop button. You can tap the Play icon in the message box to listen to your recorded voice message. If you want to re-record it, tap Restart.
If you're ready to send it, tap Attach, and the voice recording will be saved in the conversation view. Always double-check the name at the top of the screen before sending your message to make sure it's going to the right person. If you're happy with the message, tap the Send arrow at the bottom right to send it.
If you receive a voice message from a number you don't recognise, it's OK to delete it without listening. If you play it and it asks you to call back or tap a link, don't. It is most likely a scam.
